Year 1 Team welcome
Welcome to Year 1!
Our names are Mrs Woodward and Mrs Skelding and we can’t wait to work with your child this year as they continue their journey of learning and faith. During this year, we will share the teaching responsibilities of Year 1 alongside Miss Brady, the class teaching assistant. We will be encouraging your child to try their best, learn from their mistakes, become increasingly more independent in their learning and be responsible for their belongings as well as their actions.
In Year 1 we hope that your child can read as regularly as possible and have their reading diary signed. Our PE day is a Monday and the children will need to come to school dressed for P.E. The children will be given Maths homework on a Friday which is due in on a Wednesday. They will also have Weekly Spellings to learn which are given out on a Friday and then tested on a Wednesday. We are looking forward to working with you to help your child reach their full potential! This year the Year 1 children will partake in the phonics screening test and after Christmas we will give more information on this as well as the opportunity to complete a workshop on how you can help your child with their home learning.
Please always feel welcome to ask the Year 1 team any questions throughout the year. We are always happy to help! We are excited to welcome you and your child into the new school year and joining you on their next exciting adventure
